Are You An Everyday Athlete?

Are you an Everyday Athlete? If you're not, you probably should be... But to know for sure, to me, an Everyday Athlete is someone who is balancing two key parts of their life. Your everyday.

This is your career. Your significant other. Your family. Your social life. Your set of commitments and stresses that you have to meet head on each day because they aren't negotiable. Then there is your inner athlete. The human inside you that strives for physicality, movement, strength, performance and health. If you want to be the best version of yourself, your inner athlete isn't negotiable either, but many of us make it that way. Because by definition, and Everyday Athlete isn't a professional. We're an everyday person doing extraordinary things... But we don't have our nutrition outsourced. We don't have endless time dedicated to scheduled recovery sessions and strategies. We don't have a physio on hand to fix our aches and our niggles as soon as they arrive. And we do not get paid to perform at a high level physically. It doesn't put food on our table or provide for our family. This is why we have to perform this balancing act. Juggling the everyday and the athlete aspects of our lives. But at the same time, if we don't, we sell ourselves short. We commit to living a life as a lesser version of ourself who has lower energy, confidence, self worth, strength, health, focus and vitality which we can carry into every other area of our life. You can turn up to work each day feeling tired, run down, flat, and uninspired. Or you can turn up with energy, focus, drive, and the knowledge that you're working on yourself as much as you are for someone else. You can turn up for family time drained, distracted, and desperate for some alone time. Or you can turn up present, enthusiastic and ready to give everyone else the best of you because you've taken care of yourself first. This is why turning up for your inner athlete is as much of a non-negotiable as turning up for work. Athlete vs Everyday Athlete

The challenge for most comes in finding that balance. We decide we want to unleash our inner athlete, so we pursue that at all costs. We go all-or nothing, and rip up the rule book of our everyday life. "I must train everyday". "I must slash my calories". "I must go balls to the wall every session".

It's important to remember that you are an Everyday Athlete, not a professional athlete.

For a professional athlete, it's performance at any cost. It's accepting the downsides of incredibly hard training and incredibly focussed nutrition to sneak out the final 1%'s of performance and physicality. Things like choric pain, recurring injuries, mental health challenges, loss of menstrual cycle.

As an Everyday Athlete, because our physical life isn't what puts food on the table, that juice isn't worth the squeeze. We can't accept chronic pain, recurring injuries, overuse, and negative impacts on our overall health, because our performance is less specific and more holistic.

That doesn't mean our training shouldn't be hard, shouldn't be uncomfortable, and shouldn't always be pain free. It just means we need to keep the main goal in mind. Being the Everyday Athlete. The best all-round version of ourselves.

The Everyday Athlete Lifestyle The true Everyday Athlete knows that all of this is a product of a lifestyle. Not a quick fox programme, 8 week shred, or 12 week challenge.

The "everyday" aspect also stands for repetition, routine and consistency of your athletic actions.

The Everyday Athlete lifestyle is a commitment to yourself.

A commitment to everyday focus on your inner athlete.

A commitment to doing what is valuable and necessary. A commitment to not only what works, but what works accurately, efficiently and consistently. No shortcuts, no quick fixes, just the dedication and discipline that allows you to live your best life.

The Everyday Athlete loves having a full and fulfilling lifestyle outside of the gym. We embrace the pressures, stresses and challenges that some with successful careers, growing families and vibrant social lives.

But that also means that you don't have time, energy and focus to spare on things that don't move the needle.

Which is why your Everyday Athlete lifestyle needs the direction and focus that a coach and personalised programme can offer you.
