The Mental Superpower to Boost Your Progress.

Getting your head in the right place is a key part to making big progress. After all, everything you're going to be doing comes down to making decisions on a daily basis that support your goals and drive actions that push you in the right direction. When we think of mindset and "mentality monsters", we often think of the sexy terms like discipline, determination, toughness, focus, grit, motivation and being stoic and people who are steely eyed and unforgiving in their pursuit of greatness. But there's one mental superpower that's in my opinion, often forgotten, under-appreciated and misunderstood.

Patience.

Patience can be the difference maker between those who make progress and those who don't. No matter how much steeliness and motivation someone demonstrates in a single moment, if they don't accompany it with patience then not a lot is going to happen. Because progress takes time. Progress requires relayed gratification. Progress involves taking the rough with the smooth. And it takes a lot of patience. That patience will help drive some of the more "sexy" mindset aspects such as determination, focus, and discipline. Without patience you can never really build those mental qualities. But let's get one thing clear about patience before I wrap this email up... Patience isn't the same as waiting.

Patience is doing what it takes no matter how long it takes.

Which is why patience drives determination, focus and discipline. If we treat patience as a passive act of waiting without the action it actually requires to earn progress, you'll be waiting a very long time. So start taking action, but be patient. Understand that this may take time, but that you're willing to do what it takes no matter how long it takes. If if you can manage that, it may happen sooner than you think... Ian.
